The Ashford family were the owners of a Biodefense Company associated with the Boulder Scientists, who they often worked alongside. However, the Ashford Company were actually secretly working on weapons in all forms for the Government, anything from biological weaponry to ways in enhancing humans with CRISPR. And in return they received both funding and resources to advanced science on their own terms. In fact, the crowning jewel of the company was an object found by Alto's ancestor who originally started the company after finding an unusual scientific object deep in the Mojave Desert. An object still in possession of the family till this day. However, as all things were, Boulder and the Ashford Company were destroyed by the coming of nuclear weaponry from China. Alto Ashford was born a scion of this family, and was basically chosen to follow the familial footsteps from birth.
